Guys, be nice to each other.

Some COVID recovery progress. I can smell my fart.

I thought a bit about it. I want to work from home. Here are my reasons.
Nobody is going to pay me for the time in the commute. It does not feel too much, in my case, 40 min every day, but first, nobody is going to pay me for this 40 min; second, it is more than 40 min: you wake up, dress up, have a coffee, shower, brush your teeth, it is more than 40 min.
I may not have my desk next to the window, and I know; I requested a desk next to the window gazillion times, and the answer was always: I’m afraid we cannot do it for you. I like my desk next to the window, and I like to see a blue sky and a palm tree; it makes me feel good.
Chair. I have a suspicion somebody pays good money to someone or at least gives a good vacation to Hawaii, but the office chair is soooooooo uncomfortable. I was standing all the time, until, after multiple iterations, the facility found some old chair with stains on the seat, I could sit on.
Hardware. It is relatively easy to find desks and office chairs. But even at home, it takes multiple iterations to get the perfect match for hardware: keyboard, mouse, screens your PC. In an office situation, this is almost an impossible task.
I like Zoom meetings; sometimes, I can just run the meeting in the background and continue to do my work. Back in the office, sometimes I was taking a laptop to meetings, but it’s more comfortable to work on big screens and a full-size ergonomic keyboard.
Cafe food gives me diarrhea.

I cannot smell anything, that is super annoying.

BTW, Floridian drivers are totally nuts. A lot of drivers are weaving between lanes - dangerously. A lot of drivers are driving exactly the speed limit in the middle line, while the whole traffic goes 10 mph above the limit.

During my flights to Florida and back, I had a total of four legs. On three of the flights, I sat in the middle seat. One thing I noticed was that some of the passengers were constantly “accidentally” touching me. In some cases, I didn’t mind, in some cases, it felt actually good, and in some cases, I disliked it. The girl who was touching me was constantly apologizing for “accidentally” touching me. On another flight, the guy on the right was touching me, and the guy on the left was clearing his throat non-stop; I don’t know which was more annoying. In the middle of the flight, I found the solution for the guy on the left. I put on my headphones and started watching a movie. On my right side, do you know how it feels when a cold snail slithers down your lower back? Yeah… it felt like that. And on my last leg, the girl on the right was touching me, but I didn’t mind at all, and honestly, most of the time, I wasn’t even noticing it. The guy on the right was sitting really far; almost half of his body was in the corridor.

Reading some tweets and having some recent conversations made me think. I have good friends, so I mainly interact with my coworkers and my friends. In contrast, some people work as cashiers or nurses, so they have a lot of interactions with random people. I wonder if I’m living in a bubble of nice and politically correct people and if the world is actually full of racism and homophobia that I just don’t see because people don’t openly discuss it in public spaces and shops. And why I am worrying because it can be like a ticking time bomb, and people could become fed up and explode at some point.

I am working from home. As soon as I got out of the WFH bubble for vacation, I got COVID, a lesson for me that the pandemic is still going, and I need to order an N95.

“Fun” vacation, rapid test shows I am COVID positive. Going to lie in bed and rest.

I think I am getting sick. My throat hurts, and my nose is getting stuffy.

Quite a lot of bicyclists on the oceanside walk listen music. I realized doppler effect at this speed sounds awful.

Is it normal in South Florida people not smiling? Or I forgot to zip my jeans?

Is ChatGPT down? Who is going to write code for me while I am vacationing in Florida?
πΈ Mon, Feb 27, 2023 πΈ
Internet is bad here. 0.7 Mb/s upload on my phone, WIFI is about the same. I guess I’ll have a proper vacation here and focus on myself instead of streaming.

Remind me when I get back from vacation what I put the universal receiver inside keyboard. I have a feeling I’ll totally forget about it.

If you need only to count the number of Unicode characters in your UTF-8 string and you do not want to pull a full-blown Unicode library, here is the C++ snippet: std::count_if(std::begin(v), std::end(v), [](auto c) { return (static_cast<unsigned char>(c) & 0b1100'0000) != 0b1000'0000; })

C++ gurus stop gatekeeping C++ and let everyone program in C++ whatever they want to.

I think I have been trolled. Some viewers were coming to my stream and telling me I have to use Doom Emacs instead of vanilla Emacs. Doom Emacs has vi keyboard shortcuts!

IMO the game should be as satisfying as eating peanuts: crack open, put in your mouth, chew, swallow, repeat.

Playing with ChatGPT, I feel like I’m learning how to be better in social situations. Sometimes it gets stuck in a loop and stops believing in itself, or gets into a passive-aggressive mode. I can analyze my prompts and figure out what I did wrong. And essentially, I feel like I can learn how to motivate and inspire real people.

If I do not understand it, it cannot be science. Based on this definition chemistry is not science. jk

I realized emacs backup files are just a noise. So I added the following line to my .emacs file:
(setq backup-directory-alist `(("." . "~/.emacs.d/backups")))
